eElectricity - KWH (Kilowatt Hours)
We have come to the end of our second year of striving for a Company-wide Energy Reduction Goal of 10%. As of December, we remained at 9% electricity usage from that of 2007.
While not our goal, this is a significant accomplishment. In two years, our efforts succeeded in reducing our kilowatt use by 20%!
But how did we miss our target? Some Yards continued to make impressive savings - Corporate, Martinez Office and San Jose . . .Whoa! Kudos to you! Other Yards increased their usage by running their electric heating systems more than last year. However, the over all culprits appear to be the Martinez Parking Lot mercury vapor lights and additional web server at CTC.
Can this be fixed? Yes.
So, while those area's Eco-Ambassadors work on solutions with FIG, keep up your energy conscience habits. After all, it's not just about money saved today but saving available natural resources for tomorrow. Let's keep our future bright!
Tips:
- Turn off computers if you are not going to be using them within the hour. Remember printers and monitors too.
- Turn off lights in unoccupied spaces. This goes for fluorescent lighting too.
- Are the doors and windows closed before turning on the A/C or Heater?
- Check your workspace before leaving for the evening. Is your computer, monitor and printer turned off?
- If you're the last one out, confirm the AC/Heater and unnecessary Phantom Power appliances (you can identify them by their little, beady, red eyes) are off.
The chart below reflects our year to date electrical energy consumption compared to the prior year's.
