Compact Fluorescent vs. Incandescent

At Headquarters, twenty 100 watt incandescent spot lights were replaced with 23 watt mini compact fluorescent lamps (CFL).
A CFL uses so little power compared with old bulbs, a $3 swirl pays for itself in lower electric bills in about five months.
Compact fluorescent light (CFL) use one quarter of the energy of standard incandescent bulbs. A 15-watt CFL produces the same high-quality light as a typical 60-watt incandescent bulb.
If every one of 110 million American households bought just one compact fluorescent lamp, took it home, and replaced an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people.

Standard incandescent bulbs waste 90% of their energy by producing heat, not light.

In terms of oil not burned, or greenhouse gases not exhausted into the atmosphere, one CFL used in 110 million American households is equivalent to taking 1.3 million cars off the road.
Compact fluorescents, even in heavy use, last 5, 7, 10 years. Install one on your 30th birthday; it may be around to help illuminate your 40th.
