Breathing easy with Green Air . . .

A stuffy office environment makes for uncomfortable working conditions. C&D's Admin. staff looked for ways to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter without significantly impacting the environment with unnecessary CO2.

We turned to "old school" techniques for solutions.

Bringing the outdoors in	Summer Solution: Instead of the traditional sealed office, we had windows that actually open to the outside installed! With a little "new school" technology (tinting & double paning), these replacements created cross-ventilation and circulation of fresh air where there was virtually none before.

The morning's cold air is drawn in, using strategically positioned floor and desk fans. Later, reflective heat from the parking lot is kept out in the afternoon, thanks to the tinting and double paning. Along with coordinating front and back door "open" times, the Corporate office can go without turning on the AC until the middle of the afternoon. Sometimes the AC is no longer necessary at all. This fresh air exchange has benefited the overall health of Admin. as well. While reducing the concentration of air borne germs, the increased natural light allows more of the staff to use less artificial lighting, without pesky eye strain.

Winter Response: The double paning and tinting continue to benefit by retaining heat generated in the office. The new windows' seals prevent drafts from the old windows of unknown age.

Even on dark days, there's still more natural light cast into some very dark corners of the office. Overall, this helps elevate everyone's moods - reducing decreased energy, even depression.
