Cagwin & Dorward Sustainability Manager, Jacob Voit, went to New Orleans in November with In Good Company 2009, volunteering in the continued effort to rebuild Louisiana.

in Good Company:

Builds healthy food systems and safe housing
Promotes environmental restoration
Fosters relationships among employees, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and local residents
Creates opportunities for collaboration and shared learning among companies

French Quarter spontaneous comedy show

Many houses are still standing and abandoned

For 10 days, a group of 26 employees of sustainably-minded companies lived and worked together to remodel the home of Alice Cousin, a victim of Hurricane Katrina. Alice Cousin has not been able to return to her home since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The volunteers’ efforts will allow her to return to a safe and sustainable home.

Working with In Good Company gave Cagwin & Dorward the opportunity to develop relationships with like minded companies committed to sustainability. This year’s participants included:

Timberland

The volunteers also learned from three non-profits, Rebuilding Together New Orleans, Bayou Rebirth, and New Orleans Food and Farm Network about their efforts to heal this broken community through sustainable means.
