Wonder how our local parks and open space keep so beautiful and safe? With continued budget cuts, local agencies rely increasingly more on funding from residents, groups and businesses. Some creative programs have been developed to get communities involved.

Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation “Tool Roundup” is one such program.

The Foundation coordinates 200 Volunteers, covering 43 Sonoma County Parks and over 100 miles of trails. Volunteers use the tools collected to keep the parks clean and safe.

Cagwin & Dorward was eager to help in supporting this volunteer effort!

During March, 2008, C&D staff ordered a collection of tools perfect for the parks maintenance - and why not, as landscapers, we know the right tools for the job!

Bob Bogel (right) set things in motion, Charlie Thompson approved a generous budget and Dave Keeney (left) ordered a load of brand new tools. Note: Beautiful Lake Binford (a.k.a., Rush Creek) in the background, boasts a 3.8 ml. loop trail along the tree line.

On Sunday, April 6th, the Tool Roundup's First Annual Event (co-sponsored by Cagwin & Dorward) was held at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.

Board members were on hand to supply tax deductible donation receipts.
Ranger staff answered park questions and issued Park Passes.
Demos were held on tool rehabilitation & sharpening.
Raffle Prizes rounded out the day - it was a real "hoedown"!

The event generated 102 new & used tools, valued at just under $2,500.00. The foundation was overjoyed with our contribution and expressed their thanks in the Sonoma County newspapers as well as several of their publications.
