It has been a custom during the holidays to bring chocolate to our customers and friends. Last year we changed this tradition and donated funds to plant trees in San Francisco. This year, we are continuing this new tradition... which echos the deeper sentiment of the holidays.

As of September 2007 our business operations consumed 239,294 gallons of fuel in creating and maintaining landscapes in Northern California. Carbon dioxide was produced and released into the atmosphere at the rate of 20 lbs for each gallon of gasoline we used.

Thus our company operations generated 4.7 million pounds of CO2 through the end of September. Annualized we will use 287,153 gallons of fuel and produce 5.7 million pounds of CO2. CO2 can remain in the atmosphere for a hundred years.

A mature tree can capture 50 pounds of CO2 in a year. We will need 114,861 trees to sequester the carbon our vehicles and equipment produced in 2007.

To offset our carbon footprint, we are donating to Trees for the Future to plant 100,000 trees. We will continue to support environmental organizations in the future.

In 2007, we reduced our fuel consumption by 18% from 2006.
