Sacramento River Bank Protection Project, Sacramento County
This riparian restoration project was installed and maintained by Cagwin &
Dorward. Our key activities included:
Wildhorse Ag Buffer/Greenbelt Project, Davis, Yolo County
This natural wildland area restoration project serves as a buffer zone and
greenbelt for wildlife, as well as a recreational and educational resource
for the city of Davis. The key to this project was the successful blend of
a natural setting with a park-like atmosphere. Because the project was non-irrigated,
it required careful planning and maintenance to achieve the desired results.
Our key activities included:
Sycamore Crossing Mitigation/Revegetation Project, Hercules, CA
Cagwin and Dorward contracted with A.E. Schmidt Environmental, Inc. to perform
the first phase of revegetation of over 14 acres of riparian and wetland as
well as over five acres of riparian woodland. The permitting agencies were
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and California Department of Fish and Game.
The work was reviewed and approved by LSA Associates. Our key activities included:
Strawberry Creek Mitigation/Revegetation, Sacramento County
Cagwin & Dorward provided material and installation to LSA Associates
for implementation of their plan. The scope of work included:
Grizzly Power Plant, Plumas County
Cagwin & Dorward subcontracted with Guy F. Atkinson Company for this revegetation
project at the PG&E Hydro-Electric Power Plant. The permitting agency
was the U.S. Forest Service, Quincy, California, and the grower was Cornflower
Farms. The scope of work included:
Hayward Marsh Revegetation
Cagwin & Dorward contracted with the Union Sanitary District, Hayward,
California, to perform revegetation of emergent species, including California
hardstem and alkali bulrush. The project's purpose was to provide biofiltration
and habitat enhancement within reclaimed water effluent basins owned by the
District and operated by the East Bay Regional Park District, Oakland, California.
The scope of work included:
State Route 152, Santa Clara County
As subcontractor to Granite Construction, Cagwin & Dorward performed revegetation
and maintenance in floodway, riparian and upland areas for over 2 miles where
freeway construction ran adjacent to Pacheco Creek. All Cagwin & Dorward
activities were conducted in accordance with permits from the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers and California Department of Fish and Game, with a 100% survival
requirement. Our key activities included:
Marine World/Mariner's Cove Mitigation, Vallejo
Cagwin & Dorward performed this freshwater habitat restoration as a subcontractor
to Evans Brothers, San Ramon, California, who did the earthwork. The City
of Vallejo's consultant was Demgen Aquatic Biology, Vallejo, California. The
maintenance period was three years, and the survival rate was 100%. The permitting
agencies were the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and California Department of
Fish and Game. Cornflower Farms and Tree of Life Nursery supplied the plants.
The scope of work included:
Marin Lagoon, San Rafael
Cagwin & Dorward contracted with LSA Associates, Point Richmond, California,
for this project, which included:
State Highway Route 99, Chico
Cagwin & Dorward subcontracted with Baldwin Contracting Company, Marysville,
California, on this Caltrans freeway construction project, which included
revegetation and restoration of vegetation. Work in and around Butte Creek
was done under the authority of the California Department of Fish and Game
and California Department of Water Resources Reclamation Board. Key activities
included:
Squaw Valley Inn
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Lahontan Region
Cagwin & Dorward constructed and monitored a series of artificial high-elevation
wetlands as part of a major landscape project. All project runoff was directed
through the wetlands to the satisfaction of the Lahontan Region of the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board before discharge into Squaw Creek, a
tributary of the Truckee River. Our key activities included:
Laguna Creek Assessment District
As subcontractor to Granite Construction, Cagwin & Dorward installed irrigation
and woodland revegetation planting on this City of Sacramento project. Woodland
planting was maintained under the supervision of the City of Sacramento and
its consultant, Zentner & Zentner, Sacramento. Our scope of work included:
State Route 132 - Tuolumne River Bridge
Cagwin & Dorward furnished and planted in the floodway and riverine portions
of the highway right-of-way for this project. The grower was Leonard Coates
Nursery, Watsonville, California. Our key activities included:
Saratoga Creek
For this project, Cagwin & Dorward implemented revegetation and maintenance
on a portion of Saratoga Creek in Santa Clara, California. Our client was
the Santa Clara Valley Water District, Mr. Harvey Passanisi, (408) 265-2600
(contract #CO261). Inspection was performed by AKA Landscape Architects, Palo
Alto, California. Our key activities included:
Forestville-Mirabel Revegetation (2 sites)
As prime contractor, Cagwin & Dorward furnished and installed native plants,
which were contract-grown from site-harvested propagules by Circuit Riders
Productions. This publicly bid project was subject to experience prerequisites,
prevailing wages and contract bond requirements. Our key activities included:
Marin County Airport Gnoss Field
Cagwin & Dorward served as subcontractor to the airport improvement contractor
on this federal aid project, which required full compliance with the Davis-Bacon
Act plus all equal opportunity and minority business provisions of federal
law. The owner's consultant, Prunuske Chatham, Inc., of Occidental, California,
prepared the revegetation/mitigation plan and specifications. Our key activities
included:
Police Facility Wetlands Mitigation Project, Redwood City
Cagwin & Dorward was prime contractor on this project, which included
construction of approximately 10,000 square feet of bay (salt water) wetlands
for Redwood City, California. EDAW, Inc. was the landscape architect and monitoring
was conducted by Biosystems Analysis, Inc. The scope of work included:
R.A.S.S. #4, Concord Naval Weapons Station
Cagwin & Dorward served as subcontractor to Foster Wheeler Environmental
Services on this project. Revegetation was performed following contaminated
soils cleanup conducted by the general contractor for the U.S. Navy. P.R.C.
Environmental Management, Inc., consultants to the Navy, performed inspection
and monitoring duties along with H.T. Harvey & Associates. Our key activities
included:
Los Gatos Creek at Route 85, Santa Clara County
Cagwin & Dorward created 8.8 acres of riparian habitat for this California
Department of Transportation mitigation project, which was connected to adjacent
freeway construction. The scope of work included:
Hamilton Air Force Base, Landfill #26, Wetland Mitigation, Novato
Cagwin & Dorward served as subcontractor to Plant Reclamation, Inc. for
this project. Contract-grown, containerized plants were supplied by Cornflower
Farms and Circuit Rider Productions, including 32,000 tubelings of herbaceous
species and 7,000 dee/tree pots of woody species. The site was enclosed by
an 8-foot high animal exclusion fence. The required species survival rate
was 80%. Cagwin & Dorward achieved a rate of over 90%. Our key activities
included:
R.A.S.S. #1 and #2, U.S. Navy Concord Naval Weapons Station
Cagwin & Dorward served as subcontractor to Davy International, a division
of Trafalgar House, Inc. for this project to revegetate two hazardous cleanup
sites. Locally harvested cultivars were propogated and grown by our subcontractors,
Circuit Rider Productions and LSA Nursery. Tidal and winter flood conditions
required use of Cagwin & Dorward-owned marsh machinery. Strict military
security measures governed the worksite. Success criteria required 70% or
more survival of planted species. Our key activities included:
