This CLCA Certified Water Management Program has helped managers develop a valuable, hands-on experience in water management that they can share with all of their customers. Meanwhile, these CLCA budgeted sites have experienced an average overall water savings of 20-35%, compared to prior years, while still maintaining a healthy and attractive landscape.
The Cagwin & Dorward employees pictured here, are a combination of Account Managers, Operations Managers and Irrigation Specialists. Together, they have taken the California Landscape Contractor Association (CLCA) Landscape Water Management Performance Certification test. In order to receive full certification, they must also manage at least one site to a CLCA established water budget.
Each month, these site managers make irrigation scheduling adjustments, based on historical Evapotranspiration (ET) data, provided by the California Irrigation Management Information System (CIMIS). They further refine their schedules based on unique site conditions, and monitor for water waste. At the end of each month, they read their site’s water meters and report back to the CLCA. In turn, CLCA provides them with a monthly update of how well they’re managing the site’s water use, compared to the budget.
The CLCA recognized Cagwin & Dorward at the 2009 Landscape Industries Show as the first company statewide to require all Account Managers to become certified water managers.
